Rainbow at Noon

Last Tuesday I was with Gaur Saheb. He gave me a copy of a book titled “Rainbow at Noon”. The original book, Sahitya Akademi Award Winning Novel, written in Gujarati by Dhiruben Patel is translated into English by Shri Raj Supe.

The book describes the life of Ishan, who is able to navigate his soul out of the world and back into it after his Guru leaves physical body, only to realize that Guru is never absent and one can always connect to him. Here is the story of a sanyasi who returns to his home in Mumbai and how he is treated by the world.

It is a brilliant account of the inner turmoil of every man who wishes to rise above himself and shows the way to do so as well.

The book brings into focus with amazing effectiveness the fact as to how even the mind of an evolved sadhaka often gets caught in the web of thoughts and emotions and looses awareness of the self when one interacts with others. Remembrance of Guru and getting into practice given by him brings the sadhaka back to Self and turmoil instantaneously vanishes. That is why it is said that the utensil or mirror needs to be cleaned again and again – it is not a onetime affair.

Going through the book has been a thoroughly enjoyable and enriching experience. I was so absorbed in the book with tears flowing my eyes time and again that I started reading the book yesterday and finished it this morning even though I am a slow reader.

Incidentally, I also understood the importance of work relating to translation which enables persons like us reach treasures of knowledge expressed in other languages. I remember that once Supeji had suggested to Gaur Saheb that he should write in English instead of Hindi so that he reaches many.
